SP-5885 EPOXY COATING

PRODUCT DATA SP-5885 EPOXY COATING
Description: Specialty Polymer Coatings, Inc.’s SP-5885 is a two-component surface tolerant epoxy coating that cures at ambient temperatures. It is a high performance corrosion protection coating with chemical resistance properties.
ADVANTAGES:
  • High build properties.
  • Self-priming.
  • Surface tolerant.
  • USES
  • Lining for tanks, piping and structures c ontaining salt water, jet fuel, aliphatic hydrocarbons and associated products.
  • Corrosion resistant coating for structural steel, storage tanks, and equipment in refineries, pulp and paper mills and chemical plants.
  • APPLICATION
  • Airless Spray: Graco 45:1 or 56:1 or equivalent. Tip Size: 0.021-0.025”. Thinning: 5% by volume with SP-140 Epoxy Thinner. *
  • Air Spray: Air cap with E tip and needle. Moisture trap should be used between air supply and pressure pot. Thinning: 10-15% by volume with SP-140 Epoxy Thinner. *
  • CLEANING MATERIALS
  • SP-100 Equipment Wash
  • SP-110 Tool Cleaner
  • SP-120 Internal Storage Lubricant
  • RECOMMENDED DRY FILM THICKNESS
  • Immersion Service - two (2) coats of 8-10 mils (DFT) per coat. An optional third coat can be applied if the client’s specification requires a total of 30 mils DFT, or a single coat of 20-25 mils DFT can be applied.
  • Non-Immersion Service - as per client’s specification.
  • SURFACE PREPARATION:
  • Cleanliness: The surface to be treated shall be dry and free of grease, oil, dust, abrasive material or any other contaminants. Remove grease and oil with a suitable detergent. Remove salts and other contaminants by high-pressure fresh water cleaning.
  • Immersion Service: Abrasive Blast to SSPC SP-10 (Near White).
  • Non-Immersion Service: Abrasive Blast to SSPC SP-6 (Commercial blast) or to SSPC SP-3 or SSPC SP-11 where blasting is not possible
  • RE-COAT INTERVAL:
  • 25 ° C (77 ° F) - Minimum: 8 Hours - Maximum: 4 Days
  • Sweep blasting of the surface is required to ensure inter-coat adhesion if the maximum re-coat interval is exceeded. Small areas ≤ 316 sq. cm. ( ≤ 49 sq. in.) may be sanded using a medium grit (80-100) carborundum cloth
  • All dust from the sanding or blast roughening must be removed from the surface prior to the re-coat application.
  • MIXING RATIO
By Volume: 1 Part Base to 1 Part Hardener.

    PRIMER COAT : None – SP-5885 is self-priming.
PHYSICAL PROPERTIES : Tests done on Sand Sweep Steel Surfaces:
